Chasing the Magic: A Late Start to Christmas Decor with Four Kids in Tow

Writer: Margaux RobertsMargaux Roberts

The holiday season is upon us, and as a mom of four, I've come to realize that perfection is overrated. This Christmas, our decorating journey may have started fashionably late, but what it lacks in punctuality, it more than makes up for in charm and heartwarming moments.

Let's be real – with a brood of four kiddos, finding the time to turn our home into a festive wonderland is a bit like organizing a parade. But, oh, the joy that comes with it is absolutely worth it.

This year, I stumbled upon the most enchanting light trees. They cast a warm and inviting glow that seems to dance through the room, creating an ambiance that instantly puts everyone in the holiday spirit. As I carefully arranged each branch, I couldn't help but marvel at how the soft illumination transformed our space into a cozy haven.

Embracing the latest decorating trends, I decided to hop on the Instagram-famous wagon and decked out our front entranceway tree with a cascade of vibrant red bulbs and flowers. The result? Nothing short of magical. It's become a beacon of holiday cheer, a welcoming sight for anyone passing by. The kids, especially, couldn't contain their excitement as we brought this vision to life together.

In my quest for the perfect holiday touches, I found a whimsical addition that stole the show – a lit Santa climbing a ladder. It brings a touch of playfulness to our decor, reminding us all of the magic and joy that comes with this time of year. And let's not forget the wooden glittery Santa snowmen (similar ones found here) that have found their place among our cherished decorations, adding a dash of rustic charm to the festive mix.

Pops of red have become the unifying theme throughout our home. From throw pillows to tabletop decorations, the color not only adds a festive flair but also ties everything together seamlessly. It's the little details, like the red bows on the staircase, red vintage trucks or the stockings hung with care, that make our home feel like a warm embrace.

Of course, no Christmas in our house is complete without the mischievous antics of our trusty Elf on the Shelf. Each morning, the kids excitedly search for his latest escapades, turning the hunt into a cherished daily tradition. It's these small, magical moments that make the holiday season truly special.

As I dust off older decorations, each one holds a story – a memory of Christmases past, of little hands crafting ornaments and family traditions being born. These treasures, combined with the new additions, create a tapestry of warmth and love that fills our home with the spirit of the season.
